The area takes its name from a mansion called Highams which is situated to the east of Highams Park near Woodford Green. The manor house was built in 1768 for Anthony Bacon MP. The next occupant of the mansion used to be the former governor of Bombay. The third owner of the estate, John Harman, hired Humphry Repton to do the landscaping of the place. Harmon`s son Jeremiah later sold the house to Edward Warner in 1849. The Warner used to be a popular family in the area. Occasionally they had Prime Minister William Gladstone among their guests in the house. In 1873 the station opened and the Warner family started developing the place. Actually this was one of the first parts of Highams Park to be built. That started the wave of removals to E4 and Highams Park back then.

In 1900 the station was rebuilt and Highams Park continued growing. A lot of factories, schools, churches and arts and crafts buildings were created in early decades of the 20th century. Nowadays the area is one of the very well connected districts of London offering affordable housing and friendly and welcoming environment. Although it is not on a main through route, Highams Park has a big shopping center around the station. The district is also close to Chingford, Woodford and Walthamstow. A major local company used to be Halex factory which was on Larkshall Road. It was a major employer in the area from 1897 till 1971.The factory was owned by the British Xylonite Company and produced mainly plastic goods. One of its produsct in which it had monopoly was table tennis balls. The factory was closed in the 1970s. The building was knocked down and many new industrial buildings and factories took its place. A blue plaque on Jubilee Avenue honours the plastic factory that once stood here. Without a doubt Highams Park has long lasting tradition in hosting businesses. This helps also commercial removal companies such as Cheap Removals London to develop their services in the district.

Some of the land in the area is owned by the supermarket chain Tesco. The company planned to expand its business and build a supermarket in 2007 but it was denied permission. The reasons for the denial were partly due to the project not being compatible with the local Victorian and Edwardian buildings. In 2009 a revised application was passed. Such project can benefit many other companies besides Tesco. Of course the removal companies can also be a potential beneficiary. Cheap Removals London is one of the moving firms ready to take the challenge and offer the commercial removals demanded in the E4 area.
